US heading to unseen government shutdown in 17 years?
FXstreet.com (Chicago) – The American government is potentially heading to a government shutdown not lived in over 17 years. With Republicans and Democrats unable to come to an agreement and time running out, the unanimously passed House Republican bill to ensure military funding indicates the inevitability of a shutdown.
Is it all games?
“We continue to be willing to debate these issues in a calm and rational atmosphere. But the American people will not be extorted by Tea Party anarchists” said Nevada Senator Mr. Reid. On the other hand, Republicans insist on how unacceptable failure is as summarized by Republican committee chairman Darrell Issa “how dare you presume a failure? We continue to believe there’s an opportunity for sensible compromise, and will not accept from anybody the assumption of failure”.
Democrats insist on the importance of the Obamacare reform, strongly opposed by Republicans. While some blame lack of action and agreement to incompetence and the non-governability of a divided country, others affirm the Republican move intents to block Obama’s biggest legislative achievement, as noted by the NY Times.
